Telocvičňa (Slovak word for Gym) is a spacious studio with basic equipment needed for dance practice and movement. It has been both a residential space and dance community centre since 2016. It provides local artists studio for researches and trainings, but also offers international residential programmes.
Owned by Bratislava self-governing region and integrated into the larger independent cultural hub - Nova Cvernovka its activities are being shaped by dance organisations themeselves. Since 2018, PlaST (Contemporary Dance Platform) has been coordinating activities and working on improving the conditions.
Although it is still awaiting for larger reconstruction of the whole building, it has significantly helped to consolidate local dance community and enable regular training, educational activities, as well as performances and sharing sessions for the public.
During the pandemics, artists have worked on fixing and repairing the space which led to creation of the 2 storage rooms for the sets and props, an office, a shower, and a kitchen / brainstorming zone.
From 2021, Telocvičňa became part of 2 projects that link Slovak dancers to international scene - offering international residency program Residance and a regional Visegrad project aimed at connecting art and science in the field of ecology Nature of Us.
